Teen Summer Reading Program

The library has what you need to defeat boredom and unleash your imagination this summer with the Summer Reading Program for school age youth starting the week of June 20, 2016. The library is excited to present every registrant in the programs with a new book for their summer reading pleasure as well as free child pass and a two-for-one adult admission to the 2016 Oregon State Fair.

In “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!”, children will enjoy stories, games, crafts, snacks, and activities like Wee Willy Winky Pajama Relay and making their own Olympic Torches that really light up.  Lakeview’s own Randy Dary will play and sing in a sportsmanlike way.  In “Get in the Game - Read!”, the teen program, participants will engage in activities like making their own pocket Zen garden and creating a life-size Jenga game to play together.  Everyone will have the chance to show off in the Lake County Libraries float in the Round-up parade.

Each program is eight weeks long, and gives the participant a chance to earn a certificate signed by the governor of Oregon while having fun with their friends and preventing the summer slide in reading skills. The Summer Reading Program is supported in part by Oregon’s Ready to Read grant through the Oregon State Library.

The Paisley Program, at the Community Center, will start Tuesday, June 21st at 9:30 am for elementary-age (Preschool through 6th grade) and 11:00am for the teens (7th through 12th grade). The North Lake Program, at the Christmas Valley Library will start Thursday, June 23rd at 9:00am for Preschool-6 and 11:00am for the teens.

The Lakeview Program, at the Main Library, will start Wednesday, June 22nd at 2pm for the teens and Thursday, June 23rd for Kindergarten-6th grade. New this year in Lakeview, you can now choose either the 10:00 am or the 2:00 pm K-6 program. If you are not involved in swim, please consider the 10:00 am program to make room for swimmers to attend the library program in the afternoon. Regular preschool storytimes continue in Lakeview on Wednesdays at 10:00 am.
