Explore Lake County's Solar Story at Summer Reading

7/15/2019

Lake County Libraries are celebrating Lake County’s solar story with Bob Rogers from the Lake County Resource Initiative. Summer Reading Program participants will learn about the power of the sun, our closest star, through hands on activities and demonstrations in Paisley, Christmas Valley and Lakeview as part of the “Universe of Stories” program.

The program will include building windmill powered by a solar fan as well as demonstrations of heating water with solar power, wind and ground source heat pumps, and other cool uses of the power of the sun. Rogers will bring LCRI’s renewable energy trailer to the Paisley Community Center on Tuesday, July 30th at 9:30 AM, the Christmas Valley Community Center on Tuesday, July 30th at 2:00 PM, and the Lakeview Main Library on Thursday August 1st at 10:00 AM and 2 PM.

This free public program is targeted at children in the Summer Reading Program and their families, but anyone is welcome to drop in if they’d like. The Lakeview programs are also a celebration of the Main Library’s solar power project completed in December 2018. Participants can see hands on how much power the panels are producing and learn about the equipment installed. The Main Library solar power project was made possible with funding support from Pacific Power’s Blue Sky program customers.

Bob Rogers has worked in the field of Energy Engineering for over 40 years. He is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering with a master’s degree from Stanford University. He has taught Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly University and Renewable Energy at the Oregon Institute of Technology.
