Haiku 'Rocks' the Main Library

3/31/2017

LAKEVIEW, Ore.—March 31, 2107—In April, Haiku will rock the library and the town of Lakeview thanks to the Lake County Library District and Lakeview “Rocks.” And you can help! The Main Library will host a Haiku “Rocks” crafternoon on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Drop in to make your own haiku rock. All ages welcome, but children under 10 should plan to bring someone 15 or over with them. [CONTINUED BELOW]

“I just thought how delightful it would be to find a rock with a haiku on it, and I wanted to make that experience happen for others” says Hutchinson, Library Director. She contacted Kristi Gray, organizer of Lakeview “Rocks” and from there they spun out an early April crafternoon at the library.

All materials and supplies will be provided for this free workshop open to the public. Participants may drop in any time during the 4:00 to 6:00 window, but should come early enough to allow for multiple coats of acrylic paint to dry in order to create their rock. The library will have submitted haiku on hand or you may use your own. Participants can create one rock to take home and one to be hidden in the community. Rocks will be left in the library to dry and be varnished and ready for pick up on Monday, April 10th.

Lakeview “Rocks” was started in August of 2016 by local Kristi Gray. She had been decorating rocks for years, and found inspiration while on vacation where she encountered “Vancouver Rocks.” She decided to bring this fun, positive activity back to Lakeview. The Lakeview “Rocks” Facebook group currently has 790 members. Check it out to see rocks in progress, rock painting instructions, rocks hidden, and rocks found. Keep your eyes peeled and you may even win a free lunch from Happy Horse.
