Libraries Launch Christmas in July

7/1/2019

The Lake County Library District invites community members to give a gift to the community through Christmas in July at your local library. Visit a library near you to see a great Independence Day tree made by local volunteers, and consider making a contribution to restore the book budget.

The FY 2019-20 book budget to buy the books, newspapers, magazines, audio books, and DVDs the library checks out to patrons has been reduced due to decreased tax revenue. “In order to purchase the same number of items we bought last year and meet a strategic plan goal for adding more DVDs, we need an additional $9,000,” said Amy Hutchinson, Library Director. “We haven’t asked the Lake County community for any money for library operations in over 10 years. I hope the generosity people have shown the Building Fund will spill over into the book budget this year.”

The library also welcomes donations of gently used books, DVDs, and audio books in clean, good condition. If for some reason the library cannot use the item, the Friends of Lake County Library place items for sale in the ReRead Room store or online to generate more money to buy items for the library collection. Please note that the libraries have limited space for incoming book, DVD, and audio donations. If you have more than 1 box or 1 large grocery bag to drop off at one time, please contact your local library to coordinate.

All donations are tax-deductible. For questions or more information about the budget or the library, contact Library Director Amy Hutchinson at 541-947-6019 or amyh@lakecountylibrary.org.
