Some Can Be Mask Free at the Library

5/24/2021

Effective May 25, 2021, fully vaccinated patrons and library staff may choose to show proof of vaccination status and go mask free inside Lake County Library District locations in compliance with Oregon Health Authority guidelines. Patrons who do not want to share information about their vaccination status are welcome to come inside library facilities while wearing a mask. Patrons who do not want to wear a mask or show proof of vaccination status can still use Library Take Out service, WiFi from outside the building, and any of our online or digital services.

Oregon Health Authority updated several COVID-19 guidance documents late last week, and library staff have been working to update the library’s procedures to meet the new guidelines.  “Oregon Health Authority guidelines require businesses and
organizations who wish to give people the choice to go mask free in their facilities have a procedure to verify vaccine status,” said Library Director Amy Hutchinson. “We have tried to make that process as easy as possible for library patrons,” said Hutchinson. Library patrons who wish to take their mask off for their library visit simply need to show library staff documentation that they are fully vaccinated as per the OHA guidelines to library staff. For most people, this will be the vaccine card they received when vaccinated. You can show the original card, a photocopy, or a digital copy.

Library staff ask that you be prepared to show proof of vaccination every time you visit and want to go mask-less, even if you visit multiple times a week. “We are not a medical facility prepared to handle your private medical information. We will not be making lists of patrons who have been verified or notes on your library record. We will also not share any information about your vaccination status with anyone else,” said Hutchinson. Questions about the procedures or the library may be directed to Amy Hutchinson at the Main Library at 541-947-6019 or via email at amyh@lakecountylibrary.org.
