Library Cards

How to Get a Library Card

The Lake County Library District is supported by property taxes, and any resident or property owner in Lake County is eligible for a free library card. We also have reciprocal card agreements with some neighboring counties and residents of those counties may also be able to get a card for free. Others may obtain a card for fee.

Children under 18 must have a parent or guardian present to get a library card.

In order to obtain a library card, you must be able to establish your identity and your residency. Below is a library card application, and the second page lists documents you may use to do that.

Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for all items checked out on your card or the card of a minor for which you signed. You are also responsible for updating the library when your contact information changes so we can notify you when your holds are received or when items are overdue. If your card is lost or stolen, notify the library as soon as possible.
